"The Digital Age"
The Real Challenges and Effects on Children and Parents.
There is a difference between being victimized and becoming and living as a victim. The difference being our belief of what we can or cannot do and what should be done for us. What I am really trying to say is that many often spend so much negative energy, thinking complaining about what has or has not happened.
Unfortunately, we do live in an extremely fast-changing world, where our society oftentimes confuses wants with needs. To me, the way I perceive it, it is want that creates desire and need creates dependency and has created the economic age of entitlement. What is propelling our culture to feel that they are owed? What has happened to the art of reciprocation, the act of giving back with appreciation and gratitude? Just watch TV and count the extensive number of commercials offering help to those who were hurt medically, physically, emotionally. (Believe me, this is a great deterrent to those non-good-doers and certainly does protect and bring justice to those who have been taken advantage of.) But the words extensive and overkill are creating the belief of victimization and the mind-set of becoming a victim. In a sense, it is
brainwashing, especially the adults-to-be. It creates the belief that I am owed, putting blame on others, and someone must pay. This has far-reaching effects: lack of ownership, creativity, self-motivation, and the connection between freedom and responsibility to mention a few. When there is a dependency on others for fulfillment! When the need is not met, the expectation is not fulfilled, it creates frustration and anger, which leads to victimization. We then lose the power of resilience! This of course is not just about children, it has become cultural challenge.

Thought For The Week:
The dependence on external happiness, including drug addiction and alcohol abuse, which is at epidemic proportions, has been and is thwarting the ability of many, children as well as adults, to be happy, to visualize what
they truly want, from the core, not from the store.
